Take a look at my avatar flat icons I just created. I had some spare time and I though it'd be funny to have some character icons with different mood to use them in my websites. Here are the first 4 characters. I will soon create more.

Sometimes you need to scan a directory matching results with a specific pattern rather than list all the directory contents. Your first thought is to scan the directory with scandir() and then use a preg_match inside a loop in the array results. There is a more effective way to do this.
